Hearing loss can range widely in severity. You might still manage one-on-one conversations, but they can be tough in noisy places like restaurants, and phone calls may be harder to handle. We strive to find the most suitable hearing solution for each individual situation.
What is meant by category 4 or 5?
When fitting a hearing aid, in the Netherlands a so-called hearing protocol is followed. This involves determining whether you have a simple or complex ‘care need’. The hearing protocol distinguishes five categories. Category 1 is relatively straightforward, category 5 is the most complex. The more severe hearing losses or demanding listening situations fall into category 4 or 5. Hearing aids are also classified into the same five categories: from simple to very advanced.
Your health insurance has set a maximum reimbursement amount for each category. But even if you fall outside these categories, we can often help you.
Consider ‘personal risk’
In the Netherlands compensation for the cost of a hearing aid is provided by the basic health insurance. Adults aged 18 and over have an annual own risk of €385, which is deducted from health insurance reimbursements.
